We all scream for ice cream!

August 16, 2010

Summer is coming to an end, but it surely doesn’t feel like it out there!  This has been the hottest summer on record.  I think we are all looking forward to the fall and cooler temperatures.

However, who doesn’t want to enjoy a sweet treat to cool you down on these hot summer days?  We have found some of the best places to enjoy a refreshing snack in the Triangle.

Local Yogurt – “…offers four flavors of natural frozen yogurt along with a delectable selection of fruit, cereal, candy, and other toppings.”  There are 2 locations in the Triangle – Durham and Raleigh.  All locations are on their site.

Locopops – “Hand-crafted, locally-made gourmet frozen pops in a world of flavors.”  There are 4 locations in the Triangle and they can be bought at some gourmet stores and markets.  All locations are on their site.

Henry’s Gelato – “The proprietors of Henry’s Fine Italian Gelato have traveled extensively in more than 50 countries and enthusiastically sought out the various Gelato establishments of the world to experience new flavors and recipes.”  They have a location in Raleigh and in Cary.  All locations are on their site.

Fresh – this ice cream spot does not have a Web site, but it definitely has fabulous ice cream!  It is all made at a farm locally.  They have a banana pudding ice cream that is to die for.  It’s worth the drive up Glenwood Ave in Raleigh.  Here’s their address: 6033 Glenwood Ave Raleigh, NC 27612.  There is only outdoor seating, but it is shaded.

Want to stay at home and cool off with a homemade treat?  We found this fabulous popsicle maker that will definitely satisfy everyone in your household!

The ZOKU popsicle maker is a device that you keep in your freezer and when your ready to make some popsicles – it’s ready to go!  You simply add your favorite popsicle ingredients and 7-9 minutes later… PRESTO!  You have a delicious treat.  It’s fun for everyone to use and you have complete control of the ingredients.  Be sure to add some fresh fruit for added flavor and a cool design.

This can be purchased at your local Williams-Sonoma store.

Have a favorite ice cream store or perhaps a great ice cream recipe?  We’d love for you to comment to share with our readers.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
